Internal Serotalin study: 73% are happier, 57% have improved professional performance.

What we wanted to know in an internal study: Who becomes happier? Does it have a positive impact on cognition? Who sleeps better at night?

Setup of the study

In the study, 30 participants tested the dietary supplement Serotalin over a period of 8 weeks. It was always taken in the morning together with a carbohydrate-rich snack. Our recommendation is to take one capsule per day. During the 8 weeks, the participants kept a diary. The evaluation was carried out using a questionnaire.

Sleep also improved for 67% of participants

The main functions of serotonin in the body:

Mood

digestion

Protection

Sleep

Serotonin in the brain is thought to regulate anxiety, happiness, and mood. Low levels are associated with depression.

Serotonin is primarily found in the body's stomach and intestines. It helps regulate your bowel movements and related functions.

Serotonin is what makes us nauseous. The production of serotonin increases in order to get rid of harmful or disturbing foods faster when you have diarrhea.

Serotonin can be converted into the sleep hormone melatonin. Melatonin is a hormone that controls the day-night cycle

Serotonin and cognition

Cognitions are understood to mean all thought and perception processes such as the functioning of long-term and short-term memory, conscious learning and remembering, language and speech recognition, making decisions and judgments.

Some studies show that low levels of serotonin in the brain are linked to poor memory and depressed mood.
Clinical studies have shown that serotonin improves reaction times, attention scores, and both abstract visual and face recognition memory. In addition, the serotonin level was increased in older patients who suffered from mild cognitive impairment by administering serotonin precursors such as tryptophan and 5-HTP. They reported significant improvements in cognitive function.

serotonin and sleep

A 2016 study shows that serotonin levels have a direct impact on sleep. Improved sleep quality is also associated with improved cognitive skills, improved morning wakefulness, and higher brain alertness impulses. Prolonged REM sleep has also been demonstrated, with further animal studies demonstrating the importance of serotonin in this context. Serotonin is also a precursor to melatonin in the pineal gland.

In 70% of the participants, the phases of attention have lengthened or intensified

Conclusion

Serotonin deficiency is very often a cause of depressive moods, listlessness, imbalance, attention disorders, sleep problems, etc.

The lack of serotonin can have various causes such as stress, too little exercise, poor nutrition or it can also be genetic.
Serotonin cannot be taken directly because it cannot cross the blood-brain barrier.

Serotonin precursors tryptophan or 5-hydroxytryptophan (5-HTP). In fact, several studies have shown that 5-HTP can reduce symptoms of depression.

Our internal study also shows these positive effects.
However, 5-HTP still has to be converted into serotonin, which requires various so-called co-factors such as vitamin B6 and zinc.

Important notes about taking Serotalin or other 5-HTP products:

  • A large part of the 5-HTP is already converted into serotonin in the digestive tract. Here, too, serotonin has various functions and slight nausea can occur
  • It is recommended to take it in the morning with a carbohydrate-rich snack, not on an empty stomach
