What to eat against inner restlessness?
Professional or private stress often results in inner restlessness, which is accompanied by a feeling of tension and nervousness. It is extremely stressful for those affected and can significantly reduce the quality of life. The causes of inner restlessness are manifold, but with the right diet, restlessness can sometimes be alleviated. The following foods are particularly helpful:
5 foods against inner restlessness
1. oysters
Oysters are considered a superfood of the sea, because they contain numerous trace elements that are responsible, among other things, for the function and interaction of neurotransmitters and thus also for well-being and mood. If the complex system is out of balance, it can lead to feelings of tension and anxiety. Important trace elements include zinc [1], which is found in large quantities in oysters, but also selenium, vitamin D and vitamin B12 - this particular combination of nutrients can reduce oxidative stress and help keep neurotransmitters in balance.
2. asparagus
Asparagus is also full of healthy vitamins and nutrients that can help combat inner turmoil. These include B vitamins such as vitamin B6, B12 and folic acid. They are very important for physical performance, and at the same time, a deficiency of these vitamins can lead to fatigue syndrome, which is associated with nervousness and inner tension [2]. The potassium contained in asparagus also has a blood pressure lowering and thus calming effect.
3. turmeric
As an integral part of Indian and traditional Chinese medicine, the spice turmeric is said to have many positive effects on health. Among other things, it is said to have an anti-inflammatory effect, be good for the cardiovascular system, help with weight loss and inhibit the growth of cancer cells. In animal studies, curcumin intake has been shown to reduce chronic stress and anxious behavior [3]. Similar effects have also been observed in humans, as shown in some studies with overweight subjects [4] or patients with depression [5].
4. rooibos tea
Roiboos tea enjoys great popularity among tea drinkers worldwide and this is certainly due to its calming properties. These can probably be attributed, among other things, to the fact that the tea contains a lot of antioxidants. In addition, there are also indications that Roiboos can significantly reduce the level of the stress hormone cortisol [6] and thus reduce inner restlessness.
Conclusion on food against inner restlessness
Those who frequently experience inner anxiety benefit from a healthy and balanced diet. It should definitely contain foods that have a calming effect due to their ingredients and thus contribute to more balance. These include oysters, asparagus, turmeric and, as a beverage, rooibos tea.
